PM to visit AP, to meet farmerĀ's families Saturday, June 26 2004 21:14 Hrs (IST)
Hyderabad:
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is likely to visit Andhra Pradesh on July one during which he would meet the families of farmers who had committed suicide and review the situation with the State Government.
Singh has agreed to visit the State following a request by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, official sources said in Hyderabad today (June 26, 2004).
During the day-long visit, the Prime Minister would visit Bukkarayasamudram village in Anantapur district and Dharampur in Mahaboobnagar district where he would interact with farmers and console the bereaved families.
Later, he would review the situation and the impact of the recent initiatives undertaken by the new Congress Government to ameliorate the sufferings of farmers, sources said.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy told a conference of the district collectors earlier in the day that his Government would seek central help to help farmers and request for release of rice under Food For Work programme.
Noting with satisfaction that the Centre was 'speaking our language' (of welfare-oriented programmes), he said: "We are happy that Prime Minister has supported our free power policy on the ground that Andhra Pradesh has a peculiar set of conditions that justify supply of power to farmers free of cost".
