VHP flays J-K killings, to protest on Monday Saturday, June 26 2004 21:04 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Condemning the terrorist killings in Jammu and Kashmir in the last 24 hours and the State Government's "restrictions" on Amarnath Yatra, VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) today (June 26, 2004) said it will hold demonstrations and rallies against it across the country on Monday.
VHP International General Secretary Pravin Togadiya also demanded that the Government should not hold talks with Pakistan as "situation on the ground has not changed and jehadi terrorism continued unabated."
"The killings in Jammu and Kashmir, including that of a railway engineer and 12 people in Poonch, since yesterday show that jehadis are still active in harming at India," he told over phone from Gujarat.
"In this situation, there is no justification for holding talks with Pakistan," Togadiya said.
The previous Vajpayee Government had committed a "mistake" by talking to Pakistan while terrorism was on, the VHP leader said the "present Government should not repeat the same."
Citing reports that over 3000 terrorists were waiting on across the border to cross over into India, he demanded that the frontiers with Pakistan be sealed.
On the Amarnath Yatra controversy, Togadiya criticised J and K Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for putting "restrictions" like that of duration on it, saying he had "no right to do so as it is a religious matter."
The demonstrations and rallies across the country will be held against these developments, he said.
