Sunday, June 27 2004 11:36 Hrs (IST)

Jammu: Entry of outsiders to the construction sites of Jammu-Udhampur-Baramulla railway project has been banned from today (Jun 27, 2004) and prohibitory orders imposed near them in the wake of abduction and killing of an IRCON engineer and his brother by militants.

The ban would remain in force for two months, Sohan Lal Raina, Additional District Magistrate for Ramban, under which all the present construction sites fall, said.

Prohibitory orders have also been imposed near the sites and Superintendent of Police, Ramban asked to strictly impose the measure, he said.

"All the railway construction sites have been made out of bound for outsiders and locals," Raina said.

Only workers, officials and officers of the executing agencies would be allowed at the sites.

Tunneling and other work of the ambitious Rs 3,000 crore project is being carried out by IRCON and other agencies in Ramban stretching from Udhampur to Anantnag.

The areas where construction is under progress are Bunkote, Krawah, Kaskoot, Gund Adalkote, Jagirnamdar, Hagazine Asher, Darshipura, Chreel, Lumbar Bridge and four railways stations, he said.

IRCON engineer Sudhir Kumar Pundir and his brother Sandeep were abducted for ransom by militants from Awantipora in Pulwama district on Wednesday and their blood soaked bodies were found in the fields in Zainapora area of the district two days later.
