Hindutva is not a tool of convenience: RSS to BJP Monday, June 28 2004 23:05 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Welcoming the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) resolve to return to its ideological constituency, the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh) has advised it to restore confidence among its cadres that 'Hindutva' was a matter of conviction for the saffron party and not a tool of convenience.
"History is witness to the fact that Hindus have been defeated because of their weakness and lack of unity rather than the assault of foreign religionists. At least some leaders should shoulder the responsibility to ensure that history is not repeated," Tarun Vijay, Editor of RSS mouthpiece 'Panchjanya', said in an article in the latest issue of the weekly.
"Special attention should be paid to ensure that people and workers do not feel that when BJP is in power Hindutva becomes a stone hanging from their neck and when they are out of power, they try to make it their boat," he said.
The article noted that the party leadership very clearly accepted the weakness of the organisation, mistakes and ideological diversion and resolved to attain its great goal by making Hindutva its basis.
Recalling a speech of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the article said, "there were occasions when the workers were not even offered a seat, leave alone water by the
MLAs, Ministers and MPs". Vijay says workers respected the leaders not for their wealth or family fame but their simplicity, cordiality and positive response.
Stressing on unity within the 'Parivar', he said doublespeak on issues like Article 370, and Madrasas was bound to create confusion.
