Key Dawood man in Dubai likely to surrender Tuesday, June 29 2004 12:15 Hrs (IST)
Mumbai:
A key aide of fugitive underworld don, Dawood Ibrahim, is likely to surrender before Mumbai Police soon, a senior police official said today (Jun 29, 2004).
Tariq Parveen, who stays in Dubai and looks after the business interests of Dawood there, has reportedly expressed desire to return to India and face trial for the crimes for which he has been booked.
Although there is no official communication either from Dubai police or the accused himself, Mumbai Police have received feelers, which indicate that Tariq might land up in Mumbai soon.
"We have information that he might return to Mumbai," Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Satya Pal Singh said today.
If Parveen returns to Mumbai, he may face charges under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in connection with the Sara-Sahara shopping complexes case in which Dawood's youngest brother Iqbal Kaskar has already been booked on his deportation from Dubai last year.
Singh said Tariq is not wanted for the 1993 serial bomb blast cases, but is needed in the Sara-Sahara case.
Iqbal Kaskar was booked under MCOCA last year after it was found that Dawood's men had grabbed a prime CPWD land in Crawford Market in south Mumbai and constructed unauthorised shopping malls.
Mumbai Police are waiting for further signals to know when is Tariq landing up in Mumbai. "It could be sometime soon," Singh added.
