Fernandes suspends minister for cheating in RS polls Wednesday, June 30 2004 11:59 Hrs (IST)

Janata Dal-United (JD-U) president George Fernandes today (Jun 30, 2004) issued suspension orders against party's Jharkhand unit leader and Revenue and Land Reform minister Madhu Singh for his alleged involvement in a cash-for-support during the recent Rajya Sabha biennial polls.
"We have only one way before us after we got the unexpected that one of our ministers, Madhu Singh, has taken Rs 50 lakh to support somebody during Rajya Sabha election. He has been suspended," Fernandes told a press conference.
''We will serve a show cause notice immediately," he added. The scandal was published in a Hindi daily today stating it had an audio CD for "evidence".
Stating that the party would not allow any such person in its fold, Fernandes said, "The matter has forced the minister and the party to bow our heads down. The party is not ready to keep such persons."
