'Overconfidence led to NDA's debacle in Bihar' Thursday, July 1 2004 17:51 Hrs (IST)
Patna:
Overconfidence on the part of NDA (National Democratic Alliance) workers led to its poor performance in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections in Bihar, BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) State president Gopal
Narayan Singh said in Patna today (July 1, 2004).
Singh told today after the culmination of the two-day state executive meeting in Patna on Wednesday, which was addressed by Arun Jaitley, in-charge Bihar Affairs, ''overconfidence on the part of NDA workers led to the debacle in the state and the verdict was stage managed as the RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) Supremo prevailed upon the district administrations to manage the booths in favour of RJD nominees.''
''The victory of the RJD in the Lok Sabha elections was not genuine and the results were manipulated by the RJD with the help of bureaucrats'', Singh said adding that the party workers were not demoralised and would reach out to every section of society to strengthen not only the organisation and cadre but also to consolidate the social base of the party.
Referring to recent statement of a few JD (U) (Janata Dal-United) leaders, including Prabhunath Singh, MP, that the party should sever its tie with the BJP before the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar, the State BJP president said, JD (U) is very much an alliance partner of the BJP and ''we intend to contest the assembly elections in alliance with the JD (U). We do not give a fig to personal statements.''
