Jamir says he is to replace Sahni as Goa Governor Thursday, July 1 2004 13:39 Hrs (IST)
Kohima:
Nagaland Pradesh Congress chief, S C Jamir, today (July 1, 2004) claimed that the Centre had decided to appoint him as the Governor of Goa replacing Kedarnath Sahni.
''Although I am yet to receive the official notification, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil informed me about the Centre's decision to appoint me as new Goa Governor about a week ago,'' Jamir said.
''Actually I wanted Gubernatorial post of Goa as I want to be outside the State politics for some time but I will continue to serve my people by working for unification of the Nagas, be it overground politicians or underground activists, so that an amicable settlement could be found to the vexed issue,'' the former Chief Minister said.
Jamir, who has been in politics for over 40 years since the formation of Nagaland State, said accepting Gubernatorial post does not mean ''I am retiring from active politics because in politics actually no one retires''.
