Khurana unfazed by UPA move; says he won't resign Thursday, July 1 2004 14:20 Hrs (IST)
Jaipur:
Unperturbed by reports that the United Progress Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre was considering sacking Governors appointed during National Democratic Alliance (NDA) rule, Rajasthan Governor Madan Lal Khurana today (July 1, 2004) asserted that he was not going to resign.
"Have I committed any sin, or committed any crime or any immoral act or any corruption," Khurana asked when reporters fired a volley of questions at him on his fate in the Gubernatorial office.
He refused to be drawn into any political controversy by saying, "Whatever I say would be construed as politics in Raj Bhavan."
However, when mediapersons persisted with their queries, he simply said, "There had been no charge against me of my committing any moral turpitude or corruption, or crime or any sin."
Answering a question, the Governor said he did not consider the UPA Government's move on Governors as a problem.
By holding "Garib Sunvayee Kendra" in Raj Bhavan, he was doing his bit to help the genuinely needy poor people, he said.
