India committed to ties with South East Asian Nations Thursday, July 1 2004 19:02 Hrs (IST)

Keeping up its 'Look East' policy, India today (July, 1, 2004) said it is firmly committed to further strengthening the ties with the 10 ASEAN nations.
External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh, who is in Jakarta to attend the 11th Asian Regional Forum (ARF) meeting tomorrow, called on Indonesian President Megawati Sukarnoputri at the Presidential palace and assured her of New Delhi's commitment to further cement the strong ties with Indonesia and other Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The Minister called on Megawati along with Foreign Ministers of other ASEAN dialogue partners.
External Affairs Ministry Spokesman Navtej Sarna described the discussions between Megawati and Singh as warm and friendly.
The External Affairs Minister also had separate meetings with his counterparts from Russia Sergei Lovrov, New Zealand Phillip Goff and Canada, Bill Graham, focusing on bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues.
