Thursday, July 1 2004 17:54 Hrs (IST)

Pervez Musharraf
Islamabad: Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf today (Jul 1, 2004) vowed to test a new missile within the next two months, State-run television reported.

"We will show you a big test within next two months or so," he told reporters in the capital, Islamabad, according to Pakistan Television.

Musharraf gave no other details, and only said that Pakistani scientists are continuing to work on missiles and that he would not roll back the country's nuclear program.

Pakistan in recent months has indicated that it will test fire a "longest range" missile to strengthen its defenses.

On May 29 and June 4, Pakistan test-fired new versions of its Ghauri V missile, which has a range of 1,500 kilometers.
