Bangalore: The Centre has given deemed university status to the Amrita Institute of Technology and Science, Amritpuri in Kerala, and Amrita Institute of Technology and Science, Bangalore.

On exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, the Centre has given deemed university status to both the institutions with immediate effect subject to review after January 12, 2008, an official release said.
