Stamp Scam: Court rejects Anil Gote's bail plea
Saturday, July 3 2004 19:29 Hrs (IST)

Pune: The Special court in Pune today (July 3, 2004) rejected the bail application of incarcerated Samajwadi Janata Party (SJP) MLA Anil Gote in connection with the multi-crore fake stamp paper racket.

Observing that Gote's previous bail applications were rejected by the court, the Special Judge S M Shembole said the bail has been rejected on the grounds that there is no change in the circumstance.

Gote was the first legislator to be arrested under the stringent provisions of Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime (MCOCA) on June 30 last year.

The other MLA to be arrested in this case was C Krishna Yadav of Telugu Desam Party.

The MLA was accused of having links with scamster Abdul Karim Telgi and suspected to have participated in the conspiracy in the fake stamp paper racket.

Gote had filed an application recently saying that he was innocent and there was no prima facie case against him. His earlier bail application was also rejected by the court.

The court had filed a chargesheet against Gote on September 15, last year along with other accused.
