Registration of births, deaths and stillbirths has been made compulsory in Karnataka.
According to a release issued from the Chief Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages here, the births, deaths and stillbirths should be registered with the local registrars within 21 days. Delayed registration is also permissible with the payment of additional fee, the release added.
In rural areas, village accountants are the registrars.
In urban areas, the registrars are: Health officer in city corporations: health officer or health inspector in city municipal councils, health officer or health inspector in town municipal councils, notified areas, project areas and cantonment boards.
