Colombo:
India has made no fresh request for the extradition of Sri Lanka's Tamil Tiger leader Velupillai Prabhakaran and his intelligence chief Pottu Amman, the Indian High Commission in Colombo said today (July 6, 2004).
"With regard to a press report today... that the new Indian Government has made a request to the Sri Lankan Government to hand over LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) leader Prabhakaran and Pottu Amman, the High Commission of India hereby denies that any fresh request has been made by the new Government of India in this connection," it said in a statement.
Both Prabhakaran and Amman are proclaimed offenders and wanted in India in connection with former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's assassination.
