Laloo presents populist Rail Budget, no fare hike Tuesday, July 6 2004 13:45 Hrs (IST)

Railways proposed to introduce 32 new trains including 17 Samparak Kranti Express linking several State capitals and different parts of the country with the Union capital.
The proposed introduction of the new trains was announced by Railway Minister Laloo Prasad while presenting the Railway Budget for 2004-05 in Lok Sabha today (Jul 6, 2004). Railways will endeavor to make available wholesome milk and milk products at all catering outlets, Laloo Prasad said.
He that said towards this end, a beginning has been made by serving "mattha" and "lassi".
As many as 74 locations would be added this year to the Passenger Reservation System (PRS), he announced. Presenting the 2004-05 Rail Budget, he said expansion of PRS available at nearly 1100 locations in the country would also be continued to help passengers traveling by reserved compartments.
"Another 74 locations will be added this year," he said.Passenger earnings was revised downwards to Rs 13,940 crore in the 2004-05 Railway Budget presented as against the proposal of Rs 14,200 crore in the Interim Budget.
Presenting the Railway Budget in the Lok Sabha, Railway Minister Laloo Prasad said this was being done in the light of actual growth rate achieved during 2003-2004.Railway proposes to complete 273 kms of new lines including Chandigarh-Morinda-Ludhiana, Kakinada-Kotipalli and Hassan-Bangalore.
