Many promises, no resources, says Vajpayee on Budget
Thursday, July 8 2004 14:11 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today (Jul 8, 2004) said that the Union Budget was "not up to the expectations" and "promises are many but no resources to meet them".

Talking to reporters after the presentation of the Budget by Finance Minister P Chidambaram, the former Prime Minister said, "It is a mixed Budget and inflation would only increase. I don't think the nation's economy would improve. Many programmes launched by the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) have been only repackaged."

Vajpayee said the Budget was "absolutely silent" on the highways and golden quadrilateral project which had been launched by the NDA Government.

"It is absolutely silent on the golden quadrilateral and the East-West and North-South Highways," he said referring to the projects launched during his Prime Ministership.
