FM to meet brokers on Jul 13 over turnover tax issue Friday, July 9 2004 18:10 Hrs (IST)
Mumbai:
Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram will meet stock brokers on July 13 in Delhi to discuss their concerns on the proposed 0.15 per cent turnover tax on securities transactions.
The meeting comes in the wake of a market crash of over 110 points registered yesterday following an announcement of the turnover tax in the budget for 2004-05.
"The FM will meet representatives of brokers on July 13 to hear their point of view on the proposed turnover tax and its implications", SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) spokesperson told in Mumbai today (July 9, 2004).
SEBI chief G N Bajpai is also expected to give the regulator's assessment on this subject to the minister.
Earlier in the day, a delegation of leading brokers met Bajpai and senior officials before commencement of day's trading to discuss tax issue and its implication on the market. They had also sought an appointment with the FM.
