Brave Commando kills 3 terrorists before being slain Friday, July 9 2004 18:14 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
In another heroic act, a Special Forces' commando killed three terrorists in a close encounter in Bandipur in Northern Kashmir and made the supreme sacrifice of his life.
Capt Sajjan Singh Malik of the 10 Para-Commandos tracked the movements of a group of terrorists for over a month and then laid a trap for them in Gundpura village of Baramullah district on the night of July 7.
According to Army sources in New Delhi, Malik and his brave band of commandos swooped on the terrorists in the early hours of July 8 and in the fire-fight in the village by-lanes killed two terrorists.
Unmindful of the three bullet injuries, the brave commando asked his group to track the third terrorist, who closed in, and killed him in a close hand-to-hand combat.
Later, he succumbed to his injuries, sacrificing his life in the best traditions, the Army said.
Capt Malik's body was flown to his home village Bassbharinda in Churu district of Rajasthan, where his last rites will be performed with full military honours.
