2 militants among four killed in grenade attacks in J&K Friday, July 9 2004 20:32 Hrs (IST)

Four persons including two ultras were killed in separate incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, where militants carried out four grenade attacks on security forces since last night, a police spokesman said today (July 9, 2004).
An unidentified militant was killed in a gunbattle with security forces during search operations at Chakthroo village in Poonch district early in the day, the spokesman said.
He said body of a Pakistani militant Abu Sultan was recovered by army from Kenthidhar-Gandoh in Doda district last night. The militant had sustained injuries in an encounter with security forces at Bachdhar-Gandoh two days ago and had been taken by his associates to Kanthidhar.
The spokesman said a civilian Abdul Rashid Khatana, a resident of Lolab, was killed when he was caught in crossfire between militants and security forces at Gurdajul-Sarkunji in Kupwara district last night.
Police recovered body of one Mohammad Anwar Dar, believed to have been killed by ultras, from Kadalbal-Charsoo of Pulwama district today, the spokesman said.
He said militants lobbed a grenade towards a security vehicle near central Telegraph office on Maulana Azad Road in Srinagar last evening, but none was hurt in the explosion.
The spokesman said militants also carried out grenade attacks on security camps at Nihama in Anantnag district and Bandipora main chowk in Baramulla district today. Both the explosive devices failed to cause any harm.
Militants lobbed another grenade near bus stand Pulwama in South Kashmir this afternoon but it did not explode and was later defused by the experts, he said.
