Friday, July 9 2004 15:57 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: The proposal for voting rights to Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) has not been found feasible, Government told the Lok Sabha today (July 9, 2004).

In a written reply to a question, Minister of State for Law and Justice K Venkatapathy said the proposal had not been found feasible owing to practical and administrative difficulties.

While discussing issues on the electorate, Law Minister H R Bhardwaj said, the Election Commission has ordered an appropriate inquiry to ascertain the reason behind missing names from electoral rolls in a large number of cases pointing out that the EC had received some complaints regarding names missing from the rolls during the recently held elections to Lok Sabha and four Assemblies.
