Work on Baramulla railway line in JK to resume soon Sunday, July 11 2004 11:57 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Work on the Qazigund-Baramulla rail line in Jammu and Kashmir, suspended after the killing of an IRCON engineer by militants, is expected to resume in a "few days" as the railway authorities are hopeful of getting security cover for the staff engaged in the prestigious project.
"We have requested for security cover and we are discussing with the State Government", a senior IRCON official told. In the next few days "we are hopeful that a security cover will be provided", he said adding that the Corporation was re-grouping its employees.
"We are keen on starting the project as early as possible", he said adding that the work on Srinagar station and Badgam station buildings should start first and proceed further.
A high level meeting at the Center to discuss the security cover for the railway employees in the project, which was scheduled Friday last but could not take place, is now expected to take place in the next few days, sources said.
IRCON engineer Sudhir Kumar Pundir and his brother were abducted and killed by militants last month, forcing the company to pull out its engineers and workers "as a
precautionary measure" seeking security cover for the employees.
