Vaghela demands SIT probe in Godhra carnage, riots Sunday, July 11 2004 17:18 Hrs (IST)
Ahmedabad:
Union Textiles Minister Shankersinh Vaghela today (July 11, 2004) demanded that the Godhra train carnage and the post-Godhra communal riots should be probed by a court of inquiry or a Special Investigation Team (SIT) set by the Centre and its findings should be treated as a `White Paper' and placed before Parliament.
Hitting out at the Gujarat Government, Vaghela told in Ahmedabad that "people do not know the truth about Godhra carnage and the subsequent riots as NDA (National Democratic Alliance) was in power. They have the right to know what actually happened here and what ever steps, like setting up a court of inquiry or an SIT, should be taken up to unearth the truth."
He said that the Centre should implement Article 355 strictly on legal grounds in Gujarat and once the impartial inquiry is over the findings be formed into a report and tabled before the Lok Sabha as a `White Paper'.
"I believe that the report will be very eye-opening", Vaghela added.
