New Delhi:
A Congress delegation from Arunachal led by former Chief Minister Mukut Mithi today (July 12, 2004) met President A P J Abdul Kalam to press their demands for removal of Governor V C Pande and imposition of President's rule in the State.
The five-member delegation submitted a memorandum to the President in which they outlined their demands and also a video CD purportedly showing the alleged 'gherao' of the Governor by ministers and MLAs "dissatisfied" after the downsizing exercise on July seven.
"It clearly shows that there was no pressure on the Governor and all the MLAs had merely expressed their views before the Governor for five hours," Mithi told reporters after the meeting.
He said Kalam had assured that he would examine the issue and "do what is appropriate."
Mithi alleged that Chief Minister Gegong Apang had "put pressure" on Pande to dissolve the State Assembly and withdraw his initial recommendation for imposition of President's rule.
"Apang ministry was in minority even before the assembly was dissolved and since then, 21 MLAs have come to Congress from BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party)," he claimed.
Mithi, who had met Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Home Minister Shivraj Patil yesterday, said, "We have presented all facts to them and it is for them to take a final decision in the matter."
Apang, who is also in New Delhi, met Patil and some Left leaders today.
