Monday, July 12 2004 18:11 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: The CBI arrested a key associate of fake stamps scamster Abdul Karim Telgi in Mumbai today (July 12, 2004).

The arrested has been identified as M Dastgir, who was produced in the local Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court by the CBI this afternoon, CBI sources said, adding that he has been remanded to police custody till next week.

Dastagir was earlier booked by Mumbai police in a case of recovery of fake stamps in late 90s, CBI sources said.

He was instrumental in recruiting people to look after the marketing and sales division of Telgi's fake stamps and stamp paper business, the sources added.

Dastagir used to look after Telgi's operations in the Andhra Pradesh capital, but later moved to Mumbai on the directions of the scamster, the CBI sources said.
