Rajender Singh to head UN mission in Ethiopia, Eritrea

United Nations: Major-General Rajender Singh of India has been appointed new Force Commander of the United Nation's mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea.

Announcing the appointment, the UN said, Singh is expected to arrive in the mission area by July 19. Earlier, he had served with the United Nations mission in Angola.

Singh, who has served in various capacities since he was commissioned into Kumaon Infantry Regiment in 1969, had taken over command of a Division deployed for counter infiltration and counter-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir in 2003.

Earlier, he had served as Sector Commander in counter-insurgency operations in Manipur and had been Deputy Director General for Military Operations at the Army Headquarters.
