Stamp scam accused makes a dramatic escape from CBI Friday, July 16 2004 14:30 Hrs (IST)
Ahmedabad:
In a blow to CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) probing the Gujarat module of the multi-crore fake stamp paper racket, an accused in the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam and an alleged close aide of mastermind Abdul Karim Telgi, made a dramatic escape from the clutches of the investigating agency at his residence in Bapunagar area in Ahmedabad in the wee hours today (July 16,2004).
Kishore Patel, who had actually turned an 'approver' for CBI last year, was brought to his house in Gujarat Housing Board quarters from Surat at midnight, told the officials accompanying him that he wanted to answer nature's call, police said.
When two constables from Athwa Lines police station of Surat took him to the toilet, Patel's wife Falguni pushed the accused towards the back door to help him escape through the common passage of the society, police said.
Falguni then stood in the way of the two constables so as to give Patel enough time to flee, which made a good escape under the veil of darkness through the narrow labyrinths of the society.
Bapunagar police has now arrested Falguni. The Chief Metropolitan Court had pardoned Patel in Ahmedabad in 2003 after he turned an 'approver' for CBI but was re-arrested by Rajkot police recently for allegedly running the fake stamp paper racket in parts of Saurashtra.
