Militants step up attack; 2 civilians, 4 cops killed Wednesday, July 21 2004 15:25 Hrs (IST)
Jammu:
Six people, including four policemen were killed in separate incidents in Doda and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir, where two civilians were abducted by ultras and a Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant was arrested since last night (July 20, 2004), official sources said in Jammu today.
Militants in Bhingra Forest area in Doda district ambushed a police party last night while they were on their way back from a remote village after carrying out some investigations, the sources said.
The militants opened fire indiscriminately and hurled grenades at the police party, killing 4 cops and seriously injuring another, they added.
Security forces have launched a massive combing and search operation in forest belts to track down the militants, the sources said.
Forces also shot dead an unidentified militant in Manjakote forest belt of Rajouri district early today.
Militants shot dead a civilian, Shafi after he refused to guide them in Gandoh tehsil of Doda district last night, they said.
Ultras also abducted two civilians, Ashok Kumar and Wazir Hussain from Ghat (Kathua) and Kalakote (Rajouri) areas last night, they said adding their whereabouts were not known so far.
