IMPPA warns of a ban on actress Mallika Sherawat
Saturday, July 24 2004 19:26 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: The Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association (IMPPA) has warned of imposing a ban on leading cine star Mallika Sherawat, from acting in Hindi films for failing to comply with an earlier agreement with a producer and complete his film.

"One of producers Ramesh Sharma had approached us a couple of months ago that actress Mallika Sherawat had agreed to work in his film Kab, Kyun aur Kahan. She had called herself Reema Puri at that time," IMPPA President Saawan Kumar Tak told today (July 24, 2004).

However, after shooting for 15 days and completing the picturisation of two songs, the actress had suddenly dropped out and had been difficult to trace. Sharma later realised that she had changed her name to Mallika Sherawat, he said.

"The producer approached her again to complete his film. He also approached IMPPA stating that he had dates with actor Sanjay Dutt and needed Mallika's dates to match with it.

Sharma also agreed to adjust the other dates later as per the convenience of the actress", Tak said.

However, despite being summoned for IMPPA meetings several times, the actress failed to turn up. During one of the meetings, she sent of her representatives with a letter. After a meeting with the representative, it was agreed to allot the required dates to the producer.

But despite the agreement, the actress went back on her word and has failed to complete his films. "We have now decided to write to the apex body Film Federation of India and urge them to impose a ban on the actress if she fails to allot the required dates and complete the film. It would be up to the Federation would take the required action."
