New Delhi:
Pakistan's Awami National Party (ANP) was today (Jul 28, 2004) critical of President Pervez Musharraf for his statement that there should be simultaneous progress within a "time-frame" on all issues, including Jammu and Kashmir.
"The two countries have seen hostilities for 57 years. It will not go in one year. If Musharraf has any time-frame he should propose it," ANP chief Asfandyar Khan told reporters in New Delhi after a 30-minute meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The grandson of Frontier Gandhi Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan said his party felt that "there cannot be and should not be a time-frame for resolution of disputes between the two countries."
"At the moment, it is a welcome development that the talks are on. We should hope for their success," Khan said, stressing that India and Pakistan should live as brothers in peace.
Underlining that the disputes between India and Pakistan, including that on J and K, were political in nature, he said, "There can be no military solution to a political dispute. Such a dispute can be solved only through dialogue."
