Musharraf for reasonable timeframe to resolve Kashmir Saturday, July 31 2004 18:01 Hrs (IST)
Islamabad:
Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has said he had a "wonderful" interaction with External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh recently during which he emphasised that there must be a reasonable timeframe for the resolution of the Kashmir issue.
Musharraf referred to Singh's contention that the two countries should not be in a hurry to resolve the issue and said "hurry is a comparative term. I do not think hurry means five or ten years. What I mean it may be months or up to a year or a year and half should be enough. We must have definition of hurry."
In an interview to 'Pakistan Observer' published today (July 31, 2004) Musharraf said he had a "wonderful" interaction with Singh during their July 23 meeting in his Army House residence in Rawalpindi.
He said he told Singh that there must be a reasonable timeframe for the resolution of the Kashmir problem.
The President said in the over-all context the two countries progressed well on the implementation of Confidence Building Measures. "I would say that we progressed well on the issue of confidence building. This would be clearer when the Foreign Ministers meet in September."
Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Khurishid Mehmood Kasuri are scheduled to meet in New Delhi on September 5 and 6 to review the progress in the composite dialogue process.
