Saturday, July 31 2004 15:25 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: Police were trying to locate Mumbai-based businessman Gautam Khanduja, the fiancee of former beauty queen Nafisa Joseph who committed suicide on Thursday night (July 29, 2004) at her Versova residence.

"We want to record the statement of Gautam and hence we are trying to locate him," DCP Amitabh Gupta told today (July 31, 2004).

Her family members found the model-turned-VJ dead at her residence after she hung herself from the ceiling.

Usha Joseph, the mother of Nafisa had yesterday (July 30, 2004) claimed that Nafisa had been upset over her problems in her personal relationship with Gautam.

Nafisa was to tie the nuptial knot, however, her fiancee Gautam had decided to break off after she (Nafisa) grilled him on certain issues relating to some of his earlier divorce papers.

Nafisa, who earlier had gone through three broken relationships and had been reeling under stress and depression following her squabbles with Gautam.

According to Gupta, "In her statement to the police, Usha had cited some reasons that could have led to Nafisa taking the extreme step, one of them being her tiff with Gautam over certain issues."
