Andhra Govt holds fifth round of talks with PWG Monday, August 2 2004 22:32 Hrs (IST)

Andhra Pradesh Government today (Aug 2, 2004) held fifth round of meeting after announcement of ceasefire with the People's War Group (PWG) emissaries to take forward the peace initiatives to resolve the decade old extremist problem in the State.
Home Minister K Jana Reddy told reporters after two hour meeting with the emissaries that he assured he will soon consult the concerned authorities in the Government on the demands put forth by them in the meeting.
This was first meeting after the State Government lifted the ban on PWG, which expired on July 22.
The representatives of Jansakhati group also participated in the meeting besides PWG emissaries Balladeer singer Gadar, revolutionary writers Varavara Rao and Kalyan Rao.
During the meeting, the PWG emissaries demanded the Government to set up of a monitor committee to keep a watch on "covert" operations being carried by police and ordering an independent enquiry into the killing of two naxals in Warangal district recently.
The PWG emissaries and Janasakhti representatives demanded the Government to complete the enquiry on "covert" operation by August 10.
They also submitted a memorandum to the Home Minister listing out some other demands including withdrawal of cases booked against three PWG emissaries for making inflammatory speeches at a public meeting in Warangal on July 28.
Jansakhti representatives Jampanna and Chelsani Srinivas participated in the meeting.
