Tamil daily 'Dinamalar' office ransacked by gang Wednesday, August 4 2004 19:06 Hrs (IST)
Cuddalore (TN):
A group of six suspected PMK (Pattali Makkal Katchi) activists allegedly ransacked the office of Tamil daily "Dinamalar" in Cuddalore and injured two employees today (August 4, 2004).
Police said they had registered a case, based on a complaint from one of the employees and were investigating.
Reporter of the daily Veera Kumar in his complaint said the gang members, suspected to be PMK activists, came in a car and entered the office, attached to the Pondicherry edition, with iron rods and some other "deadly weapons."
They went on a rampage, destroying computers, the on-line news system, telephones and furniture before making good their escape, he said.
While a total of 10 employees were in the office at the time of the attack, eight of them, including him, managed to run to safety, he said adding the other two received "simple injuries."
Kumar later told reporters that he suspected the attack in the wake of series of reports carried by the daily in the recent past, which were critical of the PMK.
