Govt to be more generous on calamity relief: FM

New Delhi: Government will revise calamity relief norms to provide a more generous compensation to people hit by major calamities like flood, drought and cyclones.

"We have decided to revise the norms. We have liberalized the norms. I think Government should be a little more generous in dealing with people affected by drought, flood and cyclones," Finance Minister P Chidambaram told reporters in New Delhi today (Aug 6, 2004).

The Government has identified three States Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra that might be affected by the delayed monsoons.
