UPA Government 'failed' at WTO meet, says RSS
Friday, August 6 2004 16:24 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Terming the outcome of the recent WTO (World Trade Organisation) meet as a "major setback" to efforts of the previous NDA (National Democratic Alliance) Government, RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) today (Aug 6, 2004) accused the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Government of "hiding" the facts and "misleading the nation about its gross failure" at the latest round of the world trade body's negotiations. "The reality appears to be that instead of bargaining for the larger good of our farmers, the UPA Government's representatives have actually agreed to conditionalities that would greatly harm our agriculture sector," RSS spokesman Ram Madhav said in a statement in New Delhi, denying media reports about his organisation supporting the Manmohan Singh Government on the outcome of the negotiations.

"The outcome of the latest Geneva meet of the WTO, instead of being a victory to India, is actually a major setback to the efforts made by the NDA Government," he said.

He said that the Sangh outfit was "of considered opinion that the UPA Government is hiding the facts and misleading the nation about its gross failure" at the meet.
