Travel agents to lift suspension on Lufthansa tickets Friday, August 6 2004 20:19 Hrs (IST)
Mumbai:
Travel agents across the country have lifted the suspension on selling tickets of Lufthansa following a meeting with the airline and the Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI) and the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI).
Accredited travel agents had stopped selling the tickets of the German carrier from July 31 onwards in a policy decision following a cut in the commission from seven to five per cent effective from next month.
"We have withdrawn unconditionally our directive on Lufthansa tickets following a meeting with the airline," TAFI president Zakkir Ahmed said in Mumbai today (Aug 6, 2004).
Lufthansa along with six other Western airlines had recently informed travel agents in India that they would be cutting the commission from seven to five per cent effective September.
The airline also followed it up with serving legal caveats to several hundred agents throughout the country in connection with the controversy of cutting commission payable to them.
Lufthansa operates 26 flights a week to India and IATA (The International Air Transport Association) accredited travel agents contribute 95 per cent of its revenue in India.
