Free power to farmers is mere eyewash: Mahajan Saturday, August 7 2004 14:13 Hrs (IST)
Akola:
Terming the Congress-led DF (Democratic Front) Government's decision to give free electricity to farmers despite a staggering debt as "mere eye-wash", BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) national general secretary Pramod Mahajan has asserted that if saffron alliance is voted to power during the forthcoming Assembly polls than it would ensure ample electricity to the ryots.
Addressing a mammoth public meeting at Balapur Tahsil town in Akola district last night (Aug 6, 2004), Mahajan said, "Shiv Sena-BJP combine will provide ample electricity with waiving of energy bills to farmers if the saffron alliance returned to power."
Making a scathing attack on Maharashtra Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, the BJP leader alleged that the Government was overburdened with loan to the tune of Rs one lakh crore and no developmental work was seen in the State during its tenure.
Mahajan urged farmers to wait for two months and not to commit suicides as the saffron alliance would not only waive the electricity bills but also give ample electricity and end the load shedding once it is voted to power.
He appealed to the farmers to vote for the Sena-BJP alliance for ousting the present Government in the State.
Among others who attended the rally included Pandurang Funkar, BJP MLC, Sanjay Dhotre BJP MP from Akola, Gowardhan Sharma BJP MLA, Sumantai Gowande BJP Mayor.
