Two captive Indian soldiers to be freed from Pak

Jalandhar: Two Indian soldiers, held captive in Pakistan, will be repatriated in exchange for one Pakistani army personnel and two civilians on August 9, 2004, army sources said in Jalandhar today (Aug 7, 2004).

The two Indian soldiers were identified as Lance Naik Jasgeer Singh and Sapper Mohd Arif, who were reported missing in 1999 Kargil war.

Sepoy Salim Ali Shah along with two Pakistani civilians would also be handed over to Pakistani rangers the same day.

Jasgeer Singh and Mohd Arif, who belong to Muktsar and Meerut area respectively, had gone missing at Kargil during operation Vijay in September 1999 and were declared as "deserter" till December 2003, when the army authorities came to know that they were lodged in Pakistani jail, sources added.

The repatriation ceremony would be attended by senior officials of Army and BSF (Border Security Force), sources said.
