PM asks people to fight communal forces, poverty

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today (Aug 9, 2004) said it was time for the people to come together to fight against communal forces that tried to divide people in the name of religion and stand united to achieve the fruits of freedom.

Addressing a gathering of freedom fighters which called on him on the occasion of August Kranti Diwas, Singh urged people to stand united in the fight against poverty.

Recalling the services of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel and other freedom fighters, he called upon the people to emulate the examples of the freedom fighters in achieving the goals before the nation and strengthen the unity and integrity of the country.
