Emotional homecoming for captive Indian soldiers
Monday, August 9 2004 14:25 Hrs (IST)

Wagah: Indian soldiers Lance Naik Jasgeer Singh and Sapper Mohammed Arif, declared "deserters" after they went missing five years back, today (Aug 9, 2004) crossed over to India from Pakistan.

It was an emotional home coming for the duo that spent nearly five years in Pakistani jails. They were hugged and showered with kisses by the eagerly awaiting family members as tears rolled down their cheeks.

The emotional reunion was also witnessed by a battery of media men, waiting at the border to capture the moments as the Prisoners of War (PoW) between India and Pakistan were exchanged.

Singh and Arif, received by the General-Officer-Commanding of 15 division, were wrongfully declared "deserters" after they went missing near the Line of Control (LoC) five years back.
