Hindus disenchanted with Vajpayee, Advani: Singhal Thursday, August 12 2004 20:59 Hrs (IST)
Lucknow:
Claiming that Hindus were disenchanted with senior BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L K Advani, VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) today (Aug 12, 2004) said Sangh Parivar should evolve a political alternative that could work for fulfilling the aspirations of the majority community.
VHP International Working President Ashok Singhal, however, dismissed speculation that his outfit would convert itself into a political party.
"The Hindu samaj is disenchanted with the policies being pursued by BJP leaders like Vajpayee, Advani and their associates and there is a need for the Sangh Parivar to evolve a political alternative which could work towards fulfilling the aspirations of the Hindus," he told reporters in Lucknow.
"Vajpayee had adopted Gandhism long back," Singhal said.
He said he had never expected the previous NDA (National Democratic Alliance) regime to make attempts to "suppress VHP" and he had written a letter in this regard to Vajpayee.
"Hindus are being subjected to atrocities under the present UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Government. It has become difficult for Hindus to live with dignity and honour and saints and youth will together have to evolve a method to forcefully oppose this," Singhal said.
Likening the present situation in the country with that of the pre-partition era, he alleged that "the Government is being run on the 'dictates' of the Muslim vote-bank which helped almost half of the MPs reach Parliament this time."
