CET: K'taka Govt prepares for the crucial SC order Friday, August 13 2004 17:27 Hrs (IST)
Bangalore:
Even as uncertainty continued over the on-going counselling by the Common Entrance Test (CET) cell for admission to professional courses, the Cabinet Sub-Committee set up on the issue met today (Aug 13, 2004) to review the situation and brace up for the Supreme Court order expected on August 16.
The meeting chaired by Chief Minister N Dharam Singh took stock of the counselling process and discussed contingency plans to be adopted in the event of the apex court striking down the State's new law fixing 75:25 ratio seat sharing quota.
Though the CET was conducting counselling for the 75:25 seat matrix, the Government is also ready with an alternative seat matrix of 50:50.
Minister for Revenue M P Prakash, one of the members of the sub-committee, told reporters that the Government still felt that it had a legitimate ground to enact a legislation on seat sharing and the Venkataraman Committee appointed under the Supreme Court order to oversee admissions has upheld the 75:25 quota.
He said the Government has accepted the Murugod Committee fee structure.
Prakash said in the meanwhile the Venkataraman committee is holding discussions with CET officials.
The meeting was attended by Water Resources Minister Mallikarjun Kharge, Industries Minister P G R Sindhia and former Chief Minister M Veerappa Moily, who has been guiding the legal panel representing the State before Supreme Court on CET matters.
