High-tech fake currency racket busted in Tamil Nadu Friday, August 13 2004 12:27 Hrs (IST)

Tamil Nadu police claimed to have busted a computer-based fake currency racket in neighbouring Dindigul with the seizure of various equipment and arrest of four persons allegedly involved in the printing and circulation of the counterfeit notes.
Along with the equipment, including scanners, laser printers and computers used in the printing of the notes, the Crime Branch-CID (Central Investigation Department) police also seized fake currency notes with a total face value of Rs 23 lakh in the denomination of Rs 500, Rs 100, Rs 50, police said.
The arrested had been remanded to 15 days judicial custody by a local court.
One of the prime accused in the case, Zafarullah Khan had been charged with involvement in fake currency cases thrice already, they said.
Acting on the instructions of ADGP K V S Murthy, the Madurai DSP raided a house at the NGO Colony in Dindigul and took one person into custody. On enquiring him, police found that besides him, three others including Khan were involved in the fake currency printing and circulation.
