Arjun preparing case to become PM, alleges Joshi Monday, August 16 2004 10:29 Hrs (IST)
Chandigarh:
The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) castigated Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh for his utterances on assassination of Mahatma Gandhi saying the latter was preparing a case while targeting the PM's post.
"He (Arjun Singh) is preparing a case with an aim of PM's post, while trying to prove that he is secular," former HRD Minister and senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi said while reacting to Singh's allegation that the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh) was responsible for the assassination of Gandhi.
Endorsing the demand of RSS for an "unconditional written apology" by Arjun Singh, Joshi told reporters in Chandigarh "by making such statements Singh wants to prove that he is anti-Hindu so that a section of Congress backs him."
"This is his old habit. He had done similar things during P V Narasimha Rao's Government also," Joshi added.
Ridiculing the Congress claims that he (Joshi) as HRD Minister in the previous NDA (National Democratic Alliance) Government tried to distort history by recommending changes in books, Joshi said there was not even a single example to justify that this had been done against the secular character of the country.
Joshi refrained from commenting on setting up of a review committee by the present Central Government to look into his draft free and compulsory Education Bill 2003. "Lets wait and watch", he said.
