Big cable TV operators to go on indefinite strike
Monday, August 16 2004 17:09 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Cable TV services will be paralysed in major cities across the country from tomorrow (Aug 17, 2004) with the major cable operator's forum today (Aug 16, 2004) announcing to go on an indefinite strike against the proposal to bring them under the service tax net.

The decision has been taken by All India Cable TV Forum, a group of major Multi System Operators (MSO) that includes MSOs like Hathway, Siti Cable, IN Cable, RPG, Trinity, Rajasthan Cable Operators Front and Federation of Punjab Cable Operators.

"The imposition of service tax on cable industry is unjustified and we have decided to go on an indefinite strike from tomorrow," Jawahar Goel from Siti Cable told reporters in New Delhi.

The Forum said that their members would distribute only four news channels while all other channels will be blocked.
