BJP asks PM to dismiss all 'tainted' Ministers Monday, August 16 2004 17:15 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Intensifying its campaign against "tainted" Ministers, BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) today (Aug 16, 2004) asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to dismiss all of them from his Government saying otherwise it would be "contradictory" to his call for good governance.
"On the one hand, the Prime Minister talks of conduct, morality and transparency in his Independence Day speech from Red Fort and on the other, tainted Ministers continue to hold office in his Government. This is contradictory," BJP Deputy Leader in Rajya Sabha and Parliamentary Party spokesperson Sushma Swaraj told reporters in New Delhi.
Taking exception to the continuation of Food and Civil Supplies Minister Taslimuddin in the cabinet despite the non-bailable warrants against him, she said, "The continuation of these Ministers is shameful and a mockery of Government.
"Only if the Prime Minister removes all of them together, his words will have meaning, his image would remain clean and his Government would not face embarrassment every now and then."
Meanwhile, party Vice-President Sushil Kumar Modi alleged that Taslimudin had concealed the NBWs (Non-bailable Warrants) and Warrants for attachment of his property in the affidavit submitted before the Returning Officer prior to contesting the polls.
Asserting that the case was non-compoundable and hence no compromise could be reached, he demanded that it be tried outside Bihar in the same manner the Supreme Court had shifted a case pertaining to Siwan MP Mohammad Shahabuddin outside the
State.
