BARC to issue chargesheets in radiation exposure case Wednesday, August 18 2004 12:59 Hrs (IST)
Mumbai:
Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), which had suspended three of its employees from for suspected involvement in the radiation exposure case at its Waste Immobilisation Plant (WIP) at Tarapur near Mumbai, will issue the chargesheets against them in a couple of days.
"The departmental inquiry against the three suspended employees is complete and the chargesheets are ready to be served. The chargesheets would be issued in a couple of days personally," BARC controller Dr Gajanan Pungle told in Mumbai today (Aug 18, 2004).
Regarding the disciplinary action, Pungle said the appropriate authorities will decide as to what kind and at what level the disciplinary action to be taken against the trio, suspended from June 21.
Three employees, all of them colleagues of the suspended persons of WIP, were allegedly exposed to radiation from a small sample bottle containing few drops of radioactive liquid during the second/third shifts on April 17.
"The trio were called for the departmental inquiry on June 21 and an official letter of suspension was issued on June 18 by BARC," the controller said.
The inquiry took place under the supervision of Atomic Energy Commission chairman Dr Anil Kakodkar "as it is a very serious case of indiscipline," he added.
