No justification for Modi's Govt to continue: Cong Wednesday, August 18 2004 20:51 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Congress today (Aug 18, 2004) said there was "no justification" for Narendra Modi and his Government to continue in office in the wake of reopening of post-Godhra riot cases by Supreme Court and the grave charges made by the then State Intelligence Bureau Chief in an affidavit filed by
him in court.
"There is no justification for Modi and his Government to continue in view of what has been happening with regard to the tragic carnage in Gujarat," party spokesman Anand Sharma told reporters in New Delhi.
Never before has the apex Court passed severe indictments against a Government as in the case of Modi Government and even gone to the extent to transfer riot cases for a fair trial from Gujarat to Maharashtra, he said.
Sharma said the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) always tried to shield the Gujarat Chief Minister.
The then Gujarat I B chief in his affidavit had made serious charges against officials particularly those from the police department and political leaders, he added.
