Two Red Fort case accused fined total of Rs 1.86 cr Wednesday, August 18 2004 21:22 Hrs (IST)

Nearly four years after the terrorist attack on Red Fort, a FERA court has imposed a fine of Rs 1.86 crore on two accused in the case Ashfaq Ahmed and Sher Zaman for receiving hawala money from Pakistan.
While the court asked Ashfaq, a Pakistani and an alleged Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist to cough up a whopping Rs 1.23 crore, Zaman, an Afghani and a proclaimed offender was ordered to shell out Rs 63 lakh.
Hawala money was received from Pakistan months before the attack on Red Fort by Zaman who operates from Ballimaran in Walled City area of the capital. Ashfaq then collected the money from Zaman and deposited in the account of Nazir Ahmed Qasid and his sons, who are also facing trial in the Red Fort attack case.
Two militants of LeT sneaked into the 17th century historic monument at around 2100 hours on December 22, 2000 and opened indiscriminate fire on the guards of the 7th Battalion of Rajputana Rifles stationed there leading to the death of three persons.
In the Red Fort attack case, Ashfaq was charged with waging war against the Government of India (Sec 121-A), criminal conspiracy (Sec 120-B) murder (Sec 302), cheating (Sec 420), forgery (Sec 468) and using as genuine a forged document (Sec 471) under IPC. Besides, he was charged under Section 14 of Foreigners Act, Sections 4 and 5 of Explosives Act as also Arms Act.
